Tales of Hyrule > Essential Information > 01. Premise

Legends tell the tale of the warrior clad in green garments, who saved Hyrule from the clutches of evil. They called him the Hero of Time, who would appear when the land was threatened with peril.

When evil attempted to crawl back into Hyrule and pervert the Triforce once more, no hero appeared. So the various races and tribes of the land joined and fought together as one, chasing the corrupt ones from their home.
For five decades the prosperous land of Hyrule became a zone of peril and war, and though the races were victorious and came out on top, the people felt a great and heavy loss.
Instead of celebrating, the factions turned against one another and retreated to their respective domains – trade became difficult, communication strained.

The Kokiri turned their forests into labyrinths; the Gorons blocked the mountain paths and only came down on the occasion to trade. The Zora retreated to their watery domain, reining control of Hyrule’s water supply whilst the Gerudo were chased back to their desert through the discriminatory reminder of their bloody history and the Rito returned to their perches on Dragon Roost Island.
Only the Sheikah remained loyally besides Hyrule’s Royal Family and with difficulty, Hyrule began its steady rebuild through the ages.

With Hyrule torn by stubborn pride, evil has discovered an opportunity to slither back into the once prosperous kingdom and pervert it from the inside out.

The fate of Hyrule lies in the current and future generations of the races, whether they lead it to its former glory or lay it to ruin as many evil forces have attempted in the past.
